About SCARF
Some of the volunteers who make the SCARF mission possible.
Sam Coffey Animal Rescue Friends (SCARF) was started in early 2016 to assist the unhoused dogs and cats of the town of Junction and Kimble County, TX.
Our inspiration, Brother Sam, was a Baptist minister who came to Junction as his first assignment out of theology school. He had a great love for the pets of our community. It was entirely by his prodding and pushing that the shelter was built.
Our goal is to get abandoned and homeless pets near Junction the medical care they need, and then help them find their forever homes across the nation.
We are a 100% volunteer and foster-based organization and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We rely on our volunteers to help us. Read about our amazing team below and let us know if you can help!
Deena is the grease that keeps the wheels of our rescue going. Since 2016, she has been SCARF’s main organizer/planner, transport coordinator, foster liaison, foster spay/neuter coordinator, you name it, she does it.
Deena and her husband Jimmy have three dogs and two cats, but there are always fosters about. She is known as the ‘crazy cat lady’ as she is our primary cat foster. Deena is one of our only fosters who will have anywhere from 5-15 cats/kittens at any given time, especially during kitten season when she has many bottle babies. She also loves and fosters dogs.
Deena has been married to Jimmy for 35 years and has one daughter, Hanna. Deena’s day job is running the family business, Braneff Electric.
In her spare time, her hobbies include crafting, gardening, sewing, painting, hiking, and walking.
Keela has been with SCARF since 2016. She has four dogs: Sassy, Marcus, Angel, and Kimmie, who is a foster fail!
Keela’s day job is providing childcare to amazing local families. She loves kids and animals. Her interests involve anything to do with kids and visiting her grandkids.
Fostering fills Cassie’s heart with unconditional love. She started fostering in 2018 with one dog. Nowadays she has at least 6-8 foster dogs at her house at any given time and she still cries each time one of her ‘babies’ goes to their furever homes.
Cassie has been married to her husband, Kenneth for 25 years and has three kids: Rebecca, 23, Kathryn, 19, & Dalton, 17. They also have 5 dogs, 3 ducks, 1 rescued chicken (don’t ask), a burro and a longhorn calf.
Cassie’s day job is as the co-owner of Hoffman Services.
Marti has been with SCARF for a number of years. She has four dogs: Marlee (adopted from SCARF), Gigi and Cooper (corgi mix siblings), and Mylo (also adopted from SCARF).
Marti has been self-employed with Clean Up Your Act for over 10 years. Her interests include aerobics, camping, and being with the grandkids and dogs.
